Day 1. My cat Nika gladly helped me out with my first day. Well... as long as she was getting some treats.
I had her attention for about 10min before she got tired of it all.
I started out with an "almost butterfly lighting" and then moved the light once more off to her side, being sure to feather the lighting.
The rest of the time I just moved around her.
Why am I doing this challenge? So I can learn more about capturing the emotion in an image.
This challenge should train me to automatically see the light on my subject.
Who did the challenge? This was on the SPTV blog. I'm really excited about...

I was asked to come to a local MOPS group to do some "Mommy and Me" Portraits for the end of the year party. I set up in a room down the hall from where the party was taking place and the moms came in, one by one with their cute little ones and got their photographs created. Roughest part, was the air conditioning broke in the room we were in. SO the warm Lousiana weather, plus all the heat the lights were putting out, made for some fun times (I say that sarcastically!). But I really did have a blast getting to know each of these moms.

It was a super sunny day... but it was also cold and windy. But that did not deter us from creating some lovely images for the "D. Family". My assistant, Miss Kimberly, came out to help me create these lovely images. We all met at the Old City Hall in Downtown Denham Springs. We started there and worked our way around a few buildings. Mr. D. did an awesome job! I usually have a problems with husbands not working with me, but Mr. D was so relaxed and flexible! He's also super romantic (they both are really)!
Miss Kimberly had a blast capturing a few images of the little guy as I worked...

It was a cloudy day, but we had planned to do a studio session with these two precious children. While I was at Imaging USA, I had learned some new ideas, so I though, on top of what we had already planned, I would throw in some extra fun images to do with the kids. I bought some live flowers and some small terracotta pots and placed them around the children. My assistant, Kimberly, brought some stuffed bunnies. It made for some fun images!
Mr. C is only one and a half and already has some amazing abilities with Iphones. I think I ended up taking over 10 images of him with his mom's...

This was a really fun photography session. Instead of meeting at a park, or at my house, I met the H. Family in their own home. It was perfect. The youngest was still taking a nap when I got there, so instead of waking him up and him being all grumpy and such, we just took the two older kids outside and started to create their portraits. The kids had a blast. The oldest son loved making faces for me, and the daughter pretended to be a princess.
I have to say, my most favorite photograph, was the one I was creating in my head for days. The family, sitting on their couch...

** Behind the picture is a mostly weekly blog post about the people in the photographs I take. I enjoy getting to know folks so much, I thought you might enjoy it too! Also I may go into details about something special at the photography session**
I am not a poet, so I decided that Peanut needed a poem for this post. She and her owner, Alisha, came by a few days ago. It was a hot summers day, with the weather man begging us to stay indoors, so we use the portable studio and also some natural light for these portraits.
Now for my attempt at poetry:
P is for Peanut

Over a year ago, I met my friend Abby when I moved down here to Louisiana. She was at that time, pregnant with Mr. C. Fun part was, she did not know at the time of me creating her 9 month picture, that she was pregnant with him, and we were all overjoyed with the little guy when he was born.
This past year has gone by pretty fast! I am always amazed to see how fast these little ones grow.
Miss Abby made a cute monkey cake for Mr. C to play with during the photoshoot. The session was done quite late at night, the little guy was not really in the mood for pictures, but as soon...

It was a rainy afternoon, but Nana and Mr. J arrived safe and sound.... and Mr. J unexpectedly was soundly asleep. Now in all my photography training, they say that you could photograph a child up to 4 weeks old... Mr. J was a year old, and I took the opportunity of the sweet sleeping child to capture a few special images for his family. After a while, we woke him up, and he had a blast playing with the wooden blocks and some of the other items that were around. What fun we had that rainy afternoon! Please enjoy the slideshow!
