Two Week Lighting Day 2 Playing the Spoons

Today we went around town looking for old spoons. I saw this food photography image in a “Better Homes and Gardens” of the different kinds of grains on spoons. I loved the idea! Thought this would be great to showcase different spices in a dish or something. Now, for todays lighting practice, I picked random spices for color and texture, none of these have anything to do with a meal or dish. I had my main light source (alien bee 800 with a medium soft box) level with the table. A few shots later, I raised the light to move the shadows a bit. This… was… a …blast! I made sure to calculate my lighting with the light meter First few shots F8 | 250sec. | 100ISO (50mm lens). The second lighting set up, since I moved my light source, I had to re-calculate my lighting. F5.6 | 250sec | 100iso. I lost 1 step of light by just raising my lighting system. Amazing, eh?

Two Week Lighting Challege Day 1

Day 1. My cat Nika gladly helped me out with my first day. Well… as long as she was getting some treats.

I had her attention for about 10min before she got tired of it all.

I started out with an “almost butterfly lighting” and then moved the light once more off to her side, being sure to feather the lighting.

The rest of the time I just moved around her.

Why am I doing this challenge? So I can learn more about capturing the emotion in an image.

This challenge should train me to automatically see the light on my subject.

Who did the challenge? This was on the SPTV blog. I’m really excited about doing this!

February Family Mini Session

This month I was blessed to work with a precious family in Downtown Denham Springs. It was a mini special, a short 30min session to capture the sweet personalities of the family. Mrs. R brought her sister along! We all had a blast, despite the fact it was a wee bit chilly. One of my favorite moments was when a semi truck would go by, and the little guy would go all crazy in excitement. He loved the trucks!

Behind the Photo– Men’s Headshots

Last Saturday, I invited local men to come and get some headshots done for my portfolio. Mr. Mike Charleston came again so I could re-take his pictures (I did not like the last ones I did) and I had Mr. D come and visit for some of his headshots. It took less than ten minuests for these great portraits! I create these special portraits in both color and B&W. Packages for headshots start at $55.

I will be having a session in July for women, and I will have two spots open for two more men to come and get headshots done for my portfolio.

Why should men get headshots?

Are you a business owner?

People like to know what you look like. Who are they working with? Do they have a kind looking face? Are they young or old? These are many of the questions your potential clients could be thinking and by having your picture on your website/facebook/business card, you help your business so your clients can put a name to

your face. Also, it’s great for networking. Too many business owners have poor quality images on their facebook and linked in pages. This is remedied by investing in a photographer who can take a proper image.

Are you a husband/ boyfriend?

Did you know your wife/girlfriend would love to have a picture of you all her own? I have a picture of my husband on my mirror so I can see him all day long. Us as wives/girlfriends love to have pictures of our loved ones!

Behind the Photo– Summer Themed Photoshoot

Last month, I went to Pretend Play Party to host a Summer Themed Photoshoot. Sadly, only one family showed up, but I still felt blest to have a super cute little girl come in and pretend about Summer! Since she was dressed in pink, we went all out in pink and had a blast. Here are a few images from that session:

Behind the Photo– Mommy and Me Portraits

I was asked to come to a local MOPS group to do some “Mommy and Me” Portraits for the end of the year party. I set up in a room down the hall from where the party was taking place and the moms came in, one by one with their cute little ones and got their photographs created. Roughest part, was the air conditioning broke in the room we were in. SO the warm Lousiana weather, plus all the heat the lights were putting out, made for some fun times (I say that sarcastically!). But I really did have a blast getting to know each of these moms.

Summer Party Photoshoot

This Friday I will be at Pretend Play Party. Normally the fourth Friday of every month is their special $5 after 5, where your kids can come in and play for $5 after 5pm. To make this evening even more special, I am coming in and setting up my studio. This months theme is “Summer”. Bring your kids dressed in cute summer fashion! We’ll have some fun taking some “summer” photos. There are only 12 fifteen minute spots available. We’ve even sweetened the deal if you continue to read below….

What to expect:
Come and play while you wait for your spot. When it is your turn, your children can get multiple images created. Up to one clothing change is allowed. If possible, I will try to match the color of the background with what your child is wearing. If there is not a good color match, we will have a classy white backdrop available. All images will be in color. I will have some B&W available to chose from, since that is my specialty. Times are only available from 5pm-8pm. See flyer below for contact information.

Pricing:

Package 1 $25
Mini session and an 8×10. A complimentary disc of Facebook sized images will be included (all images on the disc will be be branded). Free entry deal is not valid with this package.

Foodie Friday– Elderberry Syrup

A few weeks ago, I got together with Andrea of “Andi Lynn’s Elderberries” and we created some images of the ingredients that go into the spring blend of her syrup. The ingredents include:
Anise
Nettle
Elderberries
Local Honey (and sometimes Stevia).

This spring blend is good for the allergy suffering soul*. It’s also good for helping to prevent colds*. You can buy her syrup at the Denham Springs Farmers Market. Be sure to stop by and say Hi!
